The Dangers Of Global Warming From The South Pole

Scientists from several universities such as Bristol, Utrecht, California and Alberta worrying about large amounts of methane stored in permafrost South Pole. If the ice melts, the gas will be released into the air.

"Layers of ice Antarctica (South Pole) has to contain methane, although it can not really be ascertained," said the scientists.

Methane is stored as methane hydrate ice for centuries on the seabed. Methane hydrate in the form of water ice, and despite large numbers, the condition is quite stable.

When the temperature rises, it will split hydrate and release of methane from the seabed which will then be dissolved in seawater. Methane trapped, sea level and will be released in the atmosphere up to 15 years, accelerating global warming.

In 2008, experts from the U.S. and Russian estimates, 0.5 tons of methane released into the atmosphere per year. At least 1,400 gigatonnes of carbon in the form of methane and methane hydrates under the Arctic permafrost.
